Winchester & District Green Leaf Tourism Scheme

1. Car-Free Tourism
We encourage you to consider car-free tourism, we live right in the city centre ourselves and hardly use our cars - it is quicker to walk or use delivery services.
Whenever possible and appropriate we can offer you free transport to and from Wool Cottage, from the local public transport train and bus networks. We actively promote activities that are not reliant on the private motor car, such as cycling and walking.
2. Local produce
Take a look at Hampshire Fare see where you can purchase local produce - do your bit to reduce food miles and reduce pollution. The Welcome Packs and Household Essentials we provide for our guests in each of or cottages are high-quality distinctive, free-range, free trade, organic or eco friendly wherever possible.
3. Energy efficiency
Almost half of the UK's carbon dioxide emissions come from energy we use every day – at home and when we travel. By taking steps to reduce our energy consumption, and encouraging our guests to do the same, we can all help prevent climate change.

4. Recycling and Resource Use

By recycling your waste you are reducing the amount that ends up in landfill, where biodegradable waste generates methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. By recycling you are also reducing the energy consumed in making new products, which are later disposed of – another factor which contributes towards climate change. We activley encourage you to recycle your waste.

5. Training and Support
We are taking steps to operate our self catering holiday cottage in a more sustainable manner but we need your support, to help us improve our performance.
